About us

State land management responsibility

Aside from State land which is leased, reserved and vested under acts other than the Land Administration Act 1997 (LAA), or set aside under the management and control of other government agencies, the Department has direct management responsibility for:

  • unallocated State land – 925,717 km2; and

  • unmanaged reserves – 21,709 km2.

The combined total area of 947,426 km2 comprises 37.5 percent of the State.

State Land Services (SLS) is the team responsible for discharging the agency’s State land administration, management and disposition functions, as well as public works acquisition functions under the LAA.  SLS ensures that State land is administered in accordance with the provisions of the LAA.

SLS regularly conducts inspections of State land to detect illegal occupation, offences or hazards and arranges remediation by contacting the owners of unauthorised structures, etc or arranging private contractors to carry out any work required.
